Sahara Spirit Foundation will organize an event which will spotlight the economic potentialities of the Sahara and how to invest these energies for richer society and thus reduce the poverty rate.
To begin with, Western Sahara region has rich resources, despite the harshness of nature; the various rich resources are namely: metal phosphates, oil, vegetation varied to livestock, camels, tourism and other economic wealth.  There are some important places in this region thanks to the golden sands provided by the shores of the Atlantic, and the region, Sahara Spirit Foundation in this event will talk about the most important economic potentials in the Sahara such us:

The Sahara Moroccan Region is known of its animal stocks from goats to camels and cows as it exceeds 1Million heads in total, this huge number is making the Sahara Region a prominent place for food exportations and as a result achieving foods self-sufficiency.



It resulted in the discovery of the largest single phosphate mine in the world in 1947 in Boukraa area, located at in distance of 100 km to the southeast of the city to the « Laayoune »; the Moroccan sources estimated reserves Boukraa area is about two billion tons a huge number that Moroccans are proud of.

2-the salt:

The Moroccan Sahara is a region that contains a huge tanks of salt which are being exploited by the traditional methods and here comes the role of the Sahara Spirit Foundation as we will show new methods to exploit this good with modern features, the reserves estimated at the Sahara concerning the salt is 4.5 million tons which are being exploited since 1991, providing seasonal jobs for about 5,000 workers. In fact, we are planning in this event to exceed this number through the solution that will be suggested in the event.

3-Other metals:

Sands are exported, especially to the Spanish islands of Las Palmas at an annual production of up to 80 thousand tons.

The exploration efforts have led to the discovery of many other raw materials in the region, such as copper, manganese, iron, and marble ores and zircon and titanium, which constitute the most important mineral resources discovered in the desert after the phosphate.


The « Laayoune » ports, Boujdour, Tarfaya are the most important fishing ports on the desert coast, where it includes many of the equipment associated with fishing operations and hundreds of processing units, manufacturing , , also cooling, storage of marine products, and it receives hundreds of fishing units as it  produces 42.3% of the total production of the Kingdom of  Morocco as well as holding the second place after the Agadir port in fishing mackerel marine fish (about 8,000 tons per year), representing 27% of the total Moroccan production.


The Moroccan Sahara has an important variety and great tourism potential, thanks to the great desert. Also, all the coasts that are extending along the hundreds of kilometers include wonderful sites for tourism. Also, to the availability of appropriate conditions for adventure seekers; maritime furthermore,  « Oasis M’Cid, Lake Nayla, Khnevis Bay, waterfalls or heresy, Valley Taffodar » are some great places for exploring.

Despite these important possibilities, the region suffers from a lack of tourist ability and essential infrastructure like “hotelsMaritime and camps”. However, tourism industry is still one of the most important future pillars in the economy of the desert.


The commercial sector is one of the most attractive sectors in the Sahara, as it is traditionally  practiced by Sahraouis since ancient times, where the area was and still a transit point coming from Morocco toward sub-Saharan caravans (Mauritania, Mali, Senegal, Niger), we can spotlight in this event an important role that the region plays as a transit area between Europe, Africa and other African countries, as the Moroccan Sahara  could be the link between all these places mentioned.
